MY ART

Reality always contains the unforeseen and the absurd. My art reflects on this and shifts contexts: I create a dream-like environment and respond to the arbitrary flow of life.

My favourite topics are always related to nature. I grew up in a small village in the green sides of Luxembourg and animals have since always been my companions. Insects, same as pets or wildlife creatures often figure as main characters, and so does their environment: Trees, plants and other organic forms are also leading topics in my paintings.

Even though I am devoted to symmetries, well-rounded proportions and plain lines, the ordinary beautiful is not what mainly triggers my imagination. A little touch of surrealism often comes along with an invitation to a colourful universe of fantastic creatures and shapes.

I see the process of creation as a play with lines and rhythm. This bears a synergy of forms and expressions that reveal a special kind of contemplation: aesthetically pleasing compositions must not cause exclusively delightful experiences. I like to include a little uncanniness in my works; it is this which fascinates the observer and reveals another perspective of what we consider as beautiful. Every harmony encloses a little bit of uneasiness that helps to balance the atmosphere of the picture and to provoke curiosity.

The creative process is highly similar to the course of life. I have an idea of what I want to portray, but my primary conception changes with every new detail I add. The result of this imaginative play is always something unexpected and new, altering reality and all future possibilities. In this I see a strong analogy to life: The unexpected events are challenging and appealing us the most. Every decision we take influences what happens next. As long as we allow our minds to remain open, every surprise will reveal new aspects we may not have imagined before.

COOPERATION

My inspirational sources are very diverse. I am deeply bound to nature and many of my travels provided impressive images, same as the different places I used to live in. In Canterbury (UK), I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and continued in Québec (CAN) to complete the Master of Visual Arts Program. I gathered first professional experience in Scotland, where I led workshop activities with children for illustrating historic topics. Today, I work as a teacher in a primary school in Luxembourg. Here too, I attach great importance to aesthetic and artistic values with simple means.

The major part of my works are illustrations. I spent 3 years as a background artist for animated movies and pictured several campaigns for institutions like the Luxembourg Museum of Natural History, the Mouvement Ecologique Asbl and Historic Scotland. My paintings are often thematically oriented and depend on specific requests. I enjoy working with different media, both traditional and digital. I often use coloured inks, pens and pencils on paper for smaller pieces, acrylics on canvas for large paintings and digital media when working on posters, flyers and logos. If you would like to cooperate with me, feel free to communicate your ideas – I am looking forward to engaging in new projects.
